Daylight Saving Time Ends

Daylight Saving Time ended last night. At least in the United States, it now generally gets dark before 5 in the evening. This makes it an appropriate to make sure that women and children do not have to walk alone during the dark hours.

Single mothers especially often have to work long hours and often cannot afford their own cars. That often means they will walk home alone from work during the dark.

If you know anyone who has to walk in the dark, try to find them another way to get home. If you can walk with them, and they will let you, then try that. For example, if a young woman you know needs to get walk home from a party, offer to give her a ride or walk her home. Of course, it won’t help that much if after walking her home you have to walk alone, nor will if you and her are not friends who can trust each other. Try to walk in groups with friends instead of alone, when possible.

Be smart and stay in well-lit areas.
